Church History

In 1955 God led Brother/Pastor James Stewart to Nashville to start a soul-winning New testament Church in north Nashville.

This inspiration would become Beacon Baptist Church. The first services were held in the home of Bro. Stewart’s mother, Mrs. Hattie B. Stewart. Shortly thereafter, services were held at 3300 Dickerson Road (where a McDonald’s restaurant is located today).
While the church may have been sending out the light, they didn’t have much light inside. The first person that came to faith in Jesus Christ was in a service lit by candlelight for they did not yet have electricity.
Having been blessed by growth and needing a more suitable location, in the mid sixties ground was broken and construction began on the facility at 4040 Marydale where we meet today. The building was dedicated in 1965.

If we may humbly say it, there have been many wonderful things about this church since our beginning that continue today:
Biblical purpose, Biblical preaching and teaching, friendly folks, inventive ministries, wonderful memories and some pretty fine country cooking too.
Presently, Beacon Baptist Church is still fulfilling that early call to build and begin by enriching Christians and making Christ known to those estranged from Him.
We pray to be Christ led, Holy Spirit filled, Pastor shepherded, Deacon Served, and sensitive to God’s particular plans.
Below those things we are also:

Sunday School
We meet each Sunday morning with ages groups ranging from 3 year olds and up. We have small group Bible studies and many dedicated teachers.
Music Ministry
We organize an adult choir and many soloists and small groups both instrumental and vocal. We sing as a congregation too! Uplifting music that glorifies and points to God is our goal.
AWANA
We host children’s ministry and meet on Wednesday evening for all the excitement that comes with the AWANA international children’s club. We have many dedicated teachers, game leaders, and other servants committed to ministering to children.
World-wide Missions
We prayerfully and financially help support 28 missionaries and mission projects around the world. “Our” missionary families are some of God’s most faithful servants and join with us to share Jesus Christ across the planet and to the uttermost parts of the Earth.
